Projects

Projects

The Kernow Goth movement, along with Old Cornwall Societies, work on individual and collaborative projects that help support Cornwall's historic, cultural and environmental heritage.

If you (whether an individual, group or organisation) would like to discuss working with the Federation or any of the Kernow Goth societies on a project, please get in contact. Your group may be in the arts, education or environment sectors besides those in the heritage sector.

The Federation is also supporting the Cornish Buildings Group by sharing information about its Buildings at Risk Project. More about this project can be found by clicking Buildings at Risk Project which will take you to the project page.

Many Old Cornwall Societies work on projects within their local area, which you can find by on their pages - start exploring here. If you see a project you would like to get involved with, contact the relevant society who will be pleased to hear from you.

Please find below a selection of our current projects.

Mapping Methodism

Christianity and place have been closely connected in Cornwall since the middle decades of the eighteenth century through the rich heritage of Methodism. It is a connection that is still symbolised today by the physical presence of town and village chapels and Cornish Story is now working in partnership with both the Methodist Church and the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies to create a series of profiles of both existing and former religious sites.

Pobel A Gernow

The new scheme is a collaboration between the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Cornwall Heritage Trust, and Gorsedh Kernow. We want to engage the communities in Cornwall to nominate people from their area, who deserve recognition for the contribution they have made to the history and culture of Cornwall. You can nominate on the CHT website - click through to find out more.

Cornish Voices Dialect Project

The Cornish Voices Dialect Project is a collaboration between Cornwall Heritage Trust, The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Gorsedh Kernow and Lowender Peran. The project seeks to promote awareness of Cornish dialect both as a modern medium of communication and part of Cornwall’s cultural heritage.

Kenewgh! Sing!

This project aims to make it easy to learn to sing Cornish folk songs both in Cornish and in English. The accompanying book, edited by Dr Merv Davey and published by FOCS, contains dozen of your favourite Cornish singalong songs with the tunes. The words are in Cornish and English and so it’s a good way to learn Cornish. A collection which is ideal for Cornish gatherings everywhere, gathered together by the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies’ Folk Songs & Music Officer & Past Grand Bard. Newquay - Kowethas Kernow Goth Towan Blystra

Cornish Tea Treats

The Tea Treat Project has been completed and is available for everyone to view.

The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Cornish Story, and the Institute of Cornish Studies collaborated on a project to collate photographs of as many tea treats across Cornwall. Many individuals and Societies contributed their photographs to the project.

Tony Mansell, the project lead, has now collated all of these photographs into a document which is available to download below.

Thanks are due to all of those who contributed, the final document is a fantastic record of an important part of our social history.
