DESCRIPTION:There will be no Lafrowda Day in St Just this year. \nIn the past\, as part of the Lafrowda Day celebrations\, St Just and Pendeen Old Cornwall Society has put on an Exhibition of Archive Material in the Woman’s Institute Hall. This has always been extremely well attended\, and we have been asked on numerous occasions “Will there be an Exhibition this year?”. To satisfy this demand\, we are intending to have an “Open Day” for the Society’s Archive Material in the Age Concern Building in Fore Street\, St Just on SATURDAY JULY 19TH\, from 10:00am until 4:00pm. All are welcome to come and browse through our archive. Admission will be free\, but a donation for Society funds would be appreciated.

SUMMARY:Bodmin Bombing Memorial Service
DESCRIPTION:Commemoration service in Dennison Road\, Bodmin in memory of those who lost their lives when a bomb was dropped there on 7th August 1942.\nEight people from one famiy were killed and one boy who was working at a local dairy.\n\nWe hold this Service every year and it is well attended locally including Bodmin Town Council and Bodmin DCLI. The Service is taken by Rev Paul Holley from Bodmin Parish Church and two minutes silence  followed by the Last Post.

Parking and ceremony are free.\nThe field we will be in is approximately 200yrds on the right after the Playing Place round about\, you won’t be able to miss us. SUMMARY:Community Field-walking & Metal Detecting Event
DESCRIPTION:We have been given a wonderful opportunity for 40 detectorists and 50 field-walkers (maximum)\, to explore some of the West Penwith landscape\, once the field has been harvested\, and before it is sown with wildflowers. \nThis community survey will take place near Land’s End\, in the Parish of Sennen\, during the third week of September (Precise details nearer the time to those attending). It is an event in partnership between Hayle Metal Detecting Club\, LMArchaeology\, and the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies. However\, as it is a community event\, members from other heritage organisations will be invited to take part. As long as you are over 18 years old\, and a member of one of the following: Hayle Metal Detecting Club\, Launceston Detecting Club\, an Old Cornwall Society\, C.A.S.P.N (Cornish Ancient Sites Protection Network)\, M.A.G (Meneage Archaeology Group)\, or CAS (Cornwall Archaeological Society)\, you will be eligible to take part. \nThe event will take place from Friday 19th September until Sunday 21st September. \nA prolific amount of flint and stone tools have been found in the surrounding area\, so we are hopeful that the site will be productive. During the event\, you will get real hands-on experience with field-walking and/or metal detecting\, and there will be skills training opportunities for both of these\, as well as with finds. There will be training sessions from 1pm – 4pm on the Friday\, with two full days of exploring on the Saturday and Sunday\, from 9am – 4pm. \nAttendees do not have to attend all three days\, but you are welcome to join us for the whole weekend if you wish and if there’s enough availability! There will be camping available\, but this is limited to about 30 people\, and so\, priority will be given to those travelling from further afield\, such as from North Cornwall. \nThe cost for this event is £10 for detectorists\, and £5 for field-walkers. This is a non-profit event\, but this entry fee will cover materials/resources needed for the event\, and you will also be able to receive some skills training\, and take home the majority of your finds! \nPlease also bring your own lunch\, and anything else you may need during the day (medication\, your entry fee\, suncream etc). Dogs are welcome\, but they must be kept on a short lead. DESCRIPTION:The Old Cornwall session on Monday 8th December will be a true Mullion festive occasion. We are delighted to welcome Hilary Coleman\, Sally Burley and The Red River Singers\, who will bring the magic of Cornish Christmas story and song from their book Hark! The Glad Sound of Cornish Carols (poster attached). This promises to be a good Mullion Cornish Christmas evening filled with music\, tradition and Old Cornwall  Christmas community spirit. \nThe entertainment begins at 7.30pm\, with doors opening at 7.00pm. Alongside the carols and stories\, the evening will include a raffle\, seasonal refreshment\, and time to share chat together after the talk. \nBefore the evening’s entertainment\, we will also hold our annual general meeting (AGM) at 6.30pm\, the AGM usually lasts around 15 minutes. \nWe look forward to welcoming one and all to what will be a wonderful Mullion Cornish Christmas evening.
