DESCRIPTION:The Pobel a Gernow Plaque Scheme is an initiative of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies\, Cornwall Heritage Trust\, and Gorsedh Kernow. The intention is to provide a national plaque scheme for Cornwall. It can now be announced that the first plaque to be erected will be to Albert de Castro Glubb at Liskeard. \nDe Castro Glubb was a significant figure in the Old Cornwall movement. He was a solicitor who was instrumental in rescuing and protecting a number of historic sites and ancient monuments in the 1930s. \nThe “Story Café” will be led by Brian Oldham\, President of Liskeard Old Cornwall Society\, and Pete Herring\, a Landscape Archaeologist and Historian\, the talk will explore the life\, achievements\, and passion for Cornish heritage of de Castro Glubb and the history of some of the monuments he helped save. These include King Doniert’s Stone\, The Hurler Stone Circles and Dupath Well to name but a few. \nAll three partners are offering members\, exclusive early access to book your tickets. \nMember Early Access – Albert de Castro Glubb – A ‘Pobel a Gernow’ Story Café \n \n

DESCRIPTION:There will be no Lafrowda Day in St Just this year. \nIn the past\, as part of the Lafrowda Day celebrations\, St Just and Pendeen Old Cornwall Society has put on an Exhibition of Archive Material in the Woman’s Institute Hall. This has always been extremely well attended\, and we have been asked on numerous occasions “Will there be an Exhibition this year?”. To satisfy this demand\, we are intending to have an “Open Day” for the Society’s Archive Material in the Age Concern Building in Fore Street\, St Just on SATURDAY JULY 19TH\, from 10:00am until 4:00pm. All are welcome to come and browse through our archive. Admission will be free\, but a donation for Society funds would be appreciated.
