SUMMARY:Walk: Porthleven led by David Henshaw
DESCRIPTION:The walk will begin at the Bickford-Smith Institute (Clock tower) by the start of the pier and will proceed around the harbour and up on to the cliff top Wrestling Fields.\n\nAlong the way David will talk about the key buildings around the harbour and about the planning\, construction and working life of the harbour itself. There are many points of interest and topics for discussion and the walk usually takes 2 hours (plus).  The distance covered is only about 1.5 miles in total and is easy to moderate terrain.  There is more emphasis on standing at given points rather than any strenuous walking.\n\nThere is a little more information available on David’s website @ https://porthleventowntalks.co.uk/what-to-expect/

SUMMARY:Walk: The Festival of Britain Plaques in St Ives
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of 75 years in 2026. The plaques (very special as Bernard Leach kiln shelves suitably engraved to identify keys areas of town)\, Alfred Wallis grave and a couple of Titanic graves and a sadly misrepresented AWOL soldier’s grave now corrected. Also a little about Emily Hobhouse and her impending 100th anniversary (plaques in town and she lived in St Ives as well as St Ive). Even the famous Green door of Instagram fame will be on route. \nStart at 11am at train station and ending at the war memorial and a chance to see inside St Ia church (and the sad Hepworth sculpture of Madonna and Child) with a lovely/quiet coffee shop in the grounds of the church. \nThe walk will be led by the only Honorary Freeman of the Town\, Tony Mason. There have only ever been 8 other Freeman\, names like Bernard Leach and Barbara Hepworth. \nIf weather is poor on 19th\, this walk will run on 26th. Booking essential as limited to 20 participants. SUMMARY:Walk: Newham Trail\, Truro led by Martin Wright
DESCRIPTION:Start: Newham Road\, Truro w3w///ends.behind.grapes\n(Meet on the riverside walk adjacent to the vehicular entrance to Tesco’s car park in time for a 2.30 start on the walk.) \nParking\, for those who need it\, is available at the Garras Wharf P&D car park close by. (It is suggested you don’t park in Tesco’s car park which is for customers in the shop and has a 2 hour limit). \nThe walk will follow the riverside along Newham Quays then up the Newham Trail following the line of the old railway to the conclusion of the trail at the back of Lys Kernow / New County Hall\, then down the hill to Truro’s present railway station. \nMartin Wright\, the Truro OCS Recorder\, will lead the walk. The history of the Quays and the industries previously based there will be described\, and then the history of the railway itself\, the various stages in its construction\, and the neighbouring features. \nThe walk is either on pavements at the roadside or on a well made-up footpath on the old rail-bed. A short stretch of the route is fairly steep; most of the route is either flat or gently climbing. The main walk is just under 3 miles\, but for those parked at Garras wharf there is then another mile or so down through the city streets from the station back to the carpark\, or you could choose to repeat the original route in reverse. \nFinish: Station Road\, Truro

DESCRIPTION:Participants should meet at the Jubilee Garden overlooking Trevaunance Cove around 5 mins before the start (there are 3 car parks to choose from\, all within close walking distance of the cove). Numbers are not limited and no booking is required\, though we do make a nominal charge (usually £2) for non-members. Roger (Radcliffe) will be leading us up the coombe\, detailing its history; the gradient is uphill but very shallow and we will be stopping frequently for Roger to talk.
