SUMMARY:Mullion OCS - 75th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:This year marks an important milestone: the 75th Anniversary of the Mullion Old Cornwall Society. To celebrate this special occasion\, a wonderful day of sharing\, remembering\, and exploring has been planned for Saturday\, 8th August\, downstairs in the Mullion Methodist Church school room and around and about Mullion. \nIt promises to be a fascinating and highly enjoyable day out as we mark this special occasion together as a society. The full schedule for the day is as follows: \nMorning Programme (Starts at 10am)\nGuided History Walk: Meeting at 10:00 AM at the Methodist Church school room\, we will be led on a walk around Mullion looking at the village’s history from around the 1951 period (75 years ago when our society was formed) to the present day\, noting some of the fascinating changes and events along the way. \nMullion Heritage Centre Display: The Heritage Centre will be open and hosting a special display dedicated to the history of Mullion at the time of our society’s formation\, featuring display boards\, historic photographs\, and unique exhibits. \nRefreshments: We will gather back at the school room after the walk for tea\, coffee\, cakes\, and biscuits. \nPastie Lunch (Around 12.30pm)\nWe will be enjoying a pastie lunch together. Pasties will be paid for individually on the day\, but must be pre-ordered in advance detailing whether you want meat or vegetable. How to order: Email to mullionoldcornwallsociety@gmail.com to confirm by Saturday\, 1st August. \nAfternoon Programme (Starts at 1.30pm)\nMemories of Mullion: A sharing of memories by a number of local residents\, remembering their time and memories from the 1950s in Mullion\, this will also be an ‘open floor’ for anyone to share their personal memories of Mullion from around that era. Anyone with memories of this period are warmly welcome to participate and share their stories. \n‘Mining in Mullion’ Talk: A c. 20 minute presentation by Ben Sumpter on his upcoming book ‘Mining in Mullion’. This exciting project is a Mullion Old Cornwall initiative in support of our society’s purpose to ‘gather the fragments’ and to mark our 75th anniversary. This important book is due to be published next year by the Trevithick Society. \n‘Marconi in Mullion’ Talk: A c. 20 minute presentation by James Woolford exploring Marconi’s local history and connections to Mullion. \nAnniversary Cake Cutting: To close our celebrations\, our Mullion Old Cornwall President will cut the 75th Anniversary cake—and of course\, we will all get a piece too\, along with some tea and chat! \nWe expect the celebrations to draw to a close between 3.30 and 4pm. \nWe look forward to seeing one and all to mark and celebrate this special milestone for this important Mullion institution\, centred on our shared interest in and love for our beautiful and historically important Cornish village. As with all Mullion Old Cornwall events\, this day is for one and all! \nOll an gwella \nMullion OCS Committee
