SUMMARY:Pennseythun Gernewek / Cornish Language Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Every Spring Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek – one of the larger support organisations for the Cornish language – holds a live language weekend (Pennseythen Gernewek).  The aim of the weekend is to give Cornish speakers and learners a chance to use the language in an enjoyable way and in a friendly\, stress-free and relaxed environment. Click below for: \n\nFull programme\nTickets\n\nThe Pennseythen this year includes sessions which concentrate on the language\, workshops on different topics such as publishing in Cornish\, games and creative writing and social activities including singing\, music and a specially written performance by Ed Rowe (Kernow King) about the Cornish language. \nThere are children’s/family sessions and a specially designed course for beginners or near-beginners described by session leader Will Coleman (Golden Tree) as An Enys The Island: imaginary voyage across four linked workshops for complete beginners. \nThis year members were excited to be holding the popular weekend at Heartlands at Pool\, home to the Kowethas’ shop Kowsva.  Sadly a withdrawal of funding to the complex meant that all bookings were cancelled at very short notice and we had to find a new venue our weekend.  With a large number of likely attendees this seemed impossible but Cornwall Council stepped into the breach and offered to host all three days (12th.\, 13th. and 14th. April) at Lys Kernow in Truro\, to the great relief of all involved. \nThere has been an explosion of interest in Cornish over the past few years. Not only is Cornish being used in primary schools all over Cornwall\, but growing use of on-line communication has enabled new people to join classes and conversation groups\, including many from the Cornish Diaspora and elsewhere beyond the Duchy.  The Pennseythen welcomes people with all levels of Cornish. \nVisit the Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek website (https://cornish-language.org) for more details. and links to Eventbrite.

Bob Keys will introduce us to the work of the Documentary Film Movement in relation to Cornwall during the middle decades of the twentieth century\, Participants will be introduced to old film on media platforms and shown how to do their own commentaries. \nBob Keys is an Associate of the Institute of Cornish Studies and Film & Folklore Director of Cornish Story. In recent decades he has been applying his earlier Russian research on those topics to the Cornish experience.
