Federation wins funding to support future – we need your OCS’s input

The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies have been awarded a sum of money to help us develop an effective strategy for the Federation to support the Old Cornwall Movement as a whole.

During 2023 through liaison with other groups, we became aware that a number of other heritage organisations were benefitting from having developed a clear business strategy. We liaised with other organisations, and identified Elanor Hoskin Consulting as an external professional we would like to work with to help us develop our own strategy. However, we didn’t want the cost of this exercise to come out of OCS subscriptions, so we submitted a bid for funding.

I am delighted to announce that we were successful in our bid, and have been awarded a total of £3,781.00. This funding has been allocated from Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund. The Community Capacity Fund is part of the Good Growth Programme, which is delivering the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.

It will come as no surprise that we feel that the Old Cornwall movement has huge potential, and consider that the next phase for us should be about ambition. We do a great job, but how can we work together to do even more to promote Cornish heritage & culture? We really want all OCSs to be involved and particularly want to collate all views and ideas.

The next steps are:

  • In mid-January we are issuing a paper consultation via the email newsletter to all OCS, asking for your ideas.
  • In February we will arrange three consultation sessions, one to the east, one online, and one to the west. OCS representatives will be invite to attend. Our consultant, Elanor, will run engagement sessions designed to allow everyone to have their say.

Details of sessions

Session 1: 5th February, 7-8.30pm, Liskeard Public Rooms, 3-5 West St, Liskeard PL14 6BW

Session 2: 8th February, 7-8.30pm, online – Zoom details in the latest newsletter or contact secretary@oldcornwall.net

Session 3: 12th February, 1.30-3pm, Blackwater Village Hall, Blackwater, Truro, Cornwall TR4 8ET

All this work will allow us develop a 3 to 5 year business plan, which may in turn identify potential funding opportunities. The long term aim is to identify projects which will benefit all OCSs. This is an exciting journey which we hope all OCS will share with us.
