Looe OCS – 2022 summer update

During the summer we at Looe OCS had our usual trips up the West Looe River and to Looe Island.  Member William Finnegan took some wonderful wildlife photos from the river, a few of which are attached.

We had an interesting visit to the new visitor attraction at Bodmin Jail (also attached).  We missed Crying the Neck this year, as the corn had been harvested before I got round to organising it, but our social programme continues with a fish and chip supper on 21st October.

Next summer and autumn we hope to work with Mark Camp and Petra Stephenson of Looe Museum to celebrate the bi-centenary of the publication of Thomas Bond’s history of Looe in 1823, and I have just been trawling through the archives to find information for a local researcher on the abduction of Looe people by Barbary pirates in 1625 – we hope to be able to mark that anniversary in 2025.
