In Memoriam: David Crewes (1943–2025)

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and committee member, Dave Crewes.

Dave served for several years as Treasurer of the St Columb Old Cornwall Society, carrying out the role with dedication right up until this year. He was a steady, reliable presence and a valued member of the committee.

His service to Cornish life extended far beyond St Columb. Dave was actively involved with the St Columb Carnival Committee, St Columb Town Council, the Cornwall Fire Brigade, Lowender Peran and the Trevithick Society. He also played a significant role in Pan-Celtic activity, helping to build and maintain links between Cornwall and the wider Celtic nations through festivals and cultural exchange.

Dave was a Bard of the Gorsedh Kernow, taking the bardic name Gwas Ertach meaning Servant of Heritage. He was also appointed Sword Bearer, a great honour reflecting the high esteem in which he was held.

His wife, Pat Crewes, was also a Bard of the Gorsedh Kernow, taking the bardic name Myrgh Gwaynten, meaning Daughter of Spring. Together they shared a deep commitment to Cornish culture, language and tradition.

He will be remembered in St Columb and across the wider Cornish and Celtic heritage community for his lifelong service, quiet dedication and genuine love of Cornwall’s cultural life.
