On Saturday 25th July The Natur! Festival of Archaeology event held in Bodmin provided a full day of informative and engaging activity. The programme brought together speakers, demonstrators, and community contributors to explore the relationship between archaeology, landscape, and local heritage.
Launceston Flower Festival – June 2026
In early June Launceston OCS participated in the Festival of Flowers at St Mary's Church, which proved an excellent opportunity to promote the Society.

Par OCS – Festival of Walks, “The History Around Par Beach”
“The History around Par Beach” held on Saturday 27th June in Par and led my committee members of Par OCS.
The photos show us leaving the hall, the plaque erected by Par OCS to mark the home of Reuben Chappell, the Pierhead Painter, who lived there between 1904 – 1946.
A photo of the stone sculpture which represents the many uses of china clay, marking the beginning of the Clay Trail from the Beach to the Eden Project.
The Time and Tide Bell is cast in bronze and rings at high tide in Par Bay. We were fortunate that the tide was low when we visited and so were able to walk
out over the wet sand – and actually give it the bell a ‘toll!’
On our return to the hall further members were looking through our society ‘scrap books’ and archive photos before we all tucked into a welcome pasty and saffron bun, washed down with copious cups of tea!
Festival of Walks 2026 In Review
June saw the return of the Old Cornwall Societies’ Festival of Walks, with Societies across Cornwall leading free guided walks for anyone who wished to join in.
Flotsam & Jetsam Art Workshop – A Wonderful Day at Ashtorre Rock
On Saturday 27th June, as part of our Tales of the Tides Project, the Flotsam & Jetsam Art Workshop at Ashtorre Rock Community Centre proved a great success and a joyful celebration of creativity along the Tamar.

On Tuesday 23rd June 2026 Vaughan and Trystan Bennetts from Penhalwyn Trekking Stables at Halsetown welcomed St Ives Old Cornwall onto their hilltop, called Carstabba Hill, in order to celebrate Golowan; the Eve of Festival of St John.

The latest Walk, Talk and Tidy outing — a joint initiative between Cornwall Archaeological Society, Caradon Archaeology, and the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies — took us onto the wide, open expanse of Bodmin Moor on 19 March.
