Commemoration: Bodmin Bombing

August 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Annual Bodmin Bombing Remembrance Service

Each year on 7th August, Bodmin Old Cornwall Society holds a short but deeply meaningful service in memory of the nine people (including 8 members of members of a a single local family) who tragically lost their lives when a bomb fell at 1.20pm on 7th August 1942 in Mill Street — the only bomb dropped on Bodmin during the war.

A commemorative plaque now marks the site, where members of the Society gather alongside representatives of the Royal British Legion, who attend with their standard. The service begins at 1.20pm, the exact time the bomb fell, with attendees assembling from 1pm.

The service includes a display of banners, unveiling of the plaque, prayer followed by One Minute Silence, finishing with the Last Post.

This annual act of remembrance honours the lives lost and ensures that Bodmin’s wartime story continues to be held with dignity and respect within our community.
