As part of the Federation’s ‘Festival of Walks’ Trevor Smitheram (President of Hayle Old Cornwall Society) gave a guided walk around the Foundry area of Hayle on Friday 21st June 2024. There were 15 of us attending the walk, plus Trevor and one dog – although the dog seemed more interested in the walk and the ducks in the pond, than Trevor’s talk along the way.
In his usual enthusiastic and colourful style, Trevor guided us through the various landmarks around the area, as well as notable people that helped shape it over the years. Although many important buildings have been lost or altered over the years, several still survive and Trevor used these to help us piece together the puzzle, and get a clearer understanding of the Town, of which we are so fond and proud.
The walk lasted one and a half hours. All attending both enjoyed it and gained a broader understanding of the important part the town has played in the history of not only Cornwall, but the U.K. and the World.
