COVID-19 Memorial

On 23rd March 2021 the anniversary of the first COVID-19 pandemic lockdown members from Hayle Old Cornwall Society, and Hayle Art group made over 270 flowers in memory of those who died in Cornwall with Covid in the last 12months. The society donated money towards this, to help cover the cost of items. Trevor Smitheram, President of Hayle Old Cornwall Society organised the plaque and assisted with the setting up.

All concerned have done a fantastic job and have placed the plaque and flowers on the King George V memorial Walk Hayle for all to see and remember those who have passed away here in Cornwall and beyond.

Phillack Church Cemetery

The cemetery at Phillack Church was a difficult place to get to for people wanting to place flowers on their loved ones graves. Some people have actually fallen down this steep bank. So some weeks previously Trevor Smitheram, President of Hayle Old Cornwall Society had contacted the vicar and offered to place a handrail there at no cost to the church. After undertaking some fundraising and talking to various firms, on Thursday 18th March with four other volunteers Trevor fixed this handrail, from top to bottom. As well, with additional fundraising some paint was bought to paint the gates as well.

From the image you can see the gentleman holding the rail was the first down, and he was so delighted with it.
