Flotsam & Jetsam Art Workshop – A Wonderful Day at Ashtorre Rock

On Saturday 27th June, as part of our Tales of the Tides Project, the Flotsam & Jetsam Art Workshop at Ashtorre Rock Community Centre proved a great success and a joyful celebration of creativity along the Tamar. In a beautiful riverside setting, participants arrived with bags of flotsam and jetsam gathered from the foreshore, and under the expert guidance of local artist Jane Malcolm, transformed these finds into original and inspiring pieces of artwork.

The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with plenty of tea, cake, biscuits, and shared stories throughout the day. It was a lovely event that brought people together, encouraged imagination, and highlighted the creative potential of our river’s shoreline. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part.

Our Tales of the Tides project is a collaboration between the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, Callington, Saltash, and Torpoint Old Cornwall Societies. It explores people and their connection with the Tamar. Throughout the year there will be walks, talks, memory days, workshops, mummers play, exhibition and much more. It is funded under the PSNM Blue Sparks initiative.

The Plymouth Sound National Marine Park Horizons project has been made possible thanks to money raised by National Lottery players with £11.6 million of funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
