Natural Beauty and the Beast: A Celebration of Bodmin Moor

On Saturday 13th June the Federation’s Natural Beauty & The Beast event at St Nonna’s Church, Altarnun, proved to be a truly memorable celebration of Goon Brenn’s heritage, landscape, and creativity. Blessed with fine weather and the warm welcome of the “Cathedral of the Moor,” the day brought together performers, volunteers, and visitors for a rich programme of walks, workshops, music, poetry, and storytelling.

Highlights included Peter Allen’s guided walk through Altarnun’s history, inspiring poetry workshops led by Laura Miucci, and the first public performance of Levow Kesson’s Moorland Cantata. Merv and Alison Davey brought the medieval piper of St Nonna’s to life through their Cornish piping session, while Mike O’Connor and Barbara Grigg closed the evening with a masterful performance of music and folklore.

Feedback described the event as magicalmemorable, and a joy to be part of. The day strengthened partnerships, showcased Cornish culture, and created new opportunities for collaboration. Recordings will soon be shared online, ensuring the legacy of this special gathering continues.

Meur ras bras oll to everyone who contributed and supported this celebration of Cornwall’s living heritage.
