June saw the return of the Old Cornwall Societies’ Festival of Walks, with Societies across Cornwall leading free guided walks for anyone who wished to join in.
This year some 26 different walks were on offer, with a great mix of town or village tours, and longer countryside rambles. This year’s programme brought people together in a simple but effective way: walking, talking, and sharing time outdoors. Many participants commented on how welcome it felt to meet others, enjoy familiar or new places, and spend a few hours in good company. The walks also encouraged gentle exercise and fresh air, which continue to be important for wellbeing.
The festival raised awareness of the Old Cornwall movement. By opening the walks to all, Societies were able to show the work they do throughout the year and encourage new people to get involved. Several groups reported meeting first‑time participants who expressed interest in joining their local Society.
A sincere thank‑you go to all volunteers who planned routes, led walks, and welcomed participants. Their efforts ensured that the festival ran smoothly and continued the long tradition of sharing Cornwall’s places, stories, and community spirit.
With another successful year completed, the Festival of Walks remains a steady and valued part of the Federation’s calendar, and we look forward to building on this momentum in 2027.
