Talk: Into Port – Tamarside by David Wilesmith
October 21 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

At 7.30pm on Wednesday 21st October 2026, historian David Wilesmith will give a richly illustrated talk at Torpoint Council Chambers, exploring the remarkable naval heritage found along the Cornish bank of the Tamar. Drawing on sites featured in his research — from HMS Scylla and the historic gunnery ships of HMS Cambridge, to Pier Cellars, Maker Church, HMS Defiance, Thanckes Fuel Depot, and Jupiter Point — David will guide us through the stories, ships, and shore establishments that shaped the river’s military past.
This free event is part of our Tales of the Tides: Voices of the Sea project. All are welcome to attend and discover more about the Tamar’s unique maritime landscape.
P.S. Can you guess the significance of the title “Into Port”?
