Kathleen Mary ‘Bill’ Glanville  [10th October 1929 – 16th April 2021]

Remembering our dear friend Kathleen Mary ‘Bill’ Glanville, our President, and last of the founding members of St Columb Major Old Cornwall Society who passed away aged 91 on 16th April 2021. Bill had served on our society’s committee for over 50 years.

Bill as she was known to everyone was active in and about St Columb until recent COVID regulations closed everything down. She was immensely knowledgeable about St Columb and district involving herself in St Columb town tours and talks to many groups.

Bill loved talking and carrying out talks and walks with children perhaps harking back to her early days as a teacher. With her vast knowledge about Cornwall, she carried out many talks to groups and societies throughout Cornwall into her 90th year.

With a mischievous sense of humour Bill was always a pleasure to engage in conversation and very many people throughout Cornwall will have lots of happy and abiding memories of Bill, she will be very sorely missed.

A former President of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies Bill was also honoured for her work by being made a Bard of Gorsedh Kernow in 1990, taking the Kernewek bardic name ‘Wylmet Maghteth Lanherne’ meaning Bill Handmaiden of Lanherne.

Bill was buried at Lanherne with her husband Nick.
