The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies is delighted to welcome the re-launch of the Cornwall Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC), which took place on Saturday 29 November at the Museum of Cornish Life. The event marked an exciting new chapter in encouraging young people to explore Cornwall’s rich archaeological heritage.
The launch day offered a lively programme of hands-on activities. Dr Sally Herriett led engaging workshops on cordage making and the recording of archaeological finds, while George Wurr delivered a fascinating talk on the Vikings in Cornwall, complete with replica swords, bows, arrows and other weapons that brought the past vividly to life.

Young participants were able to join the Club on the day, receiving skills passports, badges and membership cards as they began their archaeological journey. A full programme of events has been planned for 2026, promising further opportunities for learning and discovery.
