Success at Gorsedh Kernow’s Holyer An Gof Awards for ‘Carols of The Roseland’

We are delighted that “Carols of the Roseland” won the music class at Gorsedh Kernow’s Holyer an Gof publisher’s awards earlier in July.

The book was one of the fantastic outputs from the Roseland Carol Project – a collaboration between St Gerrans and Porthscatho Old Cornwall Society, the Cornish National Music Archive, and the Roseland Music Society. It collected together some 40 carols with connections to Roseland.

Peter Meanwell of Washaway west Gallery Choir transcribed all of the music and notes on many of the pieces, whilst Christine Edwards carried out the music proof-reading and authored a foreword.

Detailed research was conducted by Dr Kate Neale who wrote detailed histories on each of the carols, and our own Terry Knight was responsible for the final edit, typesetting and design.

There was stiff competition in the music category this year “Bledhen an Tir” – Farming Songs & Stories from the Red River Singers (Hilary Coleman) published by Fenten & The Children of Argenteilein by Mike O’Connor published by Lyngham House also shortlisted.

Kate Neale was the driving force behind the book and it is fantastic that her work has been recognised in this manner.
