Laura Van Kempen-Wilson, Recorder for Probus OCS/Historic Cornwall Society, reports on the 8th of September:
31st May was the launch for the book, ‘Hilary’s Humorous Poems’, a collection of works by Hilary Keam of Wagg Lane, whose Bardic name was Bringer of Laughter. The works were collated and published by Hilary’s husband, Dennis.
Several members of our Society attended the Midsummer Bonfire, hosted by Redruth Old Cornwall Society, on 23 rd June at Pencoose Farm, Stithians. It was perfect weather and the farmer, Paul Gluyas, had provided the usual enormous bonfire. Our thanks to Paul and family and to Redruth OCS.
August saw the return of Fun Week, culminating in the Carnival. This is it’s third year and it is a fantastic village social event.
The Indian Restaurant on Fore Street, Tandoori Spice, has closed for good and the property is now in the process of being converted into 2 houses. However, on 20th September, a new business will be opening in Tregony Road; Bonti Bakes.
You will have noticed that the boards containing the Rolls of Honour have now been removed from the entrance hall. The backing has been removed to prevent further damage and they are awaiting conservation. Thanks to Ivan Myles from the Parish Council and Village Hall Committee for managing this.
