Old Cornwall scored many successes in the Gorsedh Awards this year.
On Friday 4th September the Gorsedh Awards were held had Bodmin, MC’d by Michael Bunney, Chairman of St Goran OCS, who is now also employed by the Gorsedh.
The Federation’s Awen Award was won by Daphne Hicks, former Secretary of Padstow OCS, and Deputy Banner Marshal for the Federation. Daphne has put in many years of service for Cornish culture, including a stint on the Fed Executive, it was great to see this hard work recognised in this way.
Lyndon “Sid” Allen, Chairman of Charlestown OCS, received the Community Awen Award for his work for Cornish history, heritage, and culture. Simon Margetts, member of St Denys & District OCS, received the London Cornish Association Shield for his work promoting Cornish Wrestling, whilst Paul Phillips, Assistant Dialect Recorder for the Federation, and member of Helston OCS, received a Certificate of Commendation for his painting of Wheal Phoenix. Trevor Smitheram, Hon. Life President of Hayle OCS received a commendation for his work on Cornish Dialect.
All in all, a great night for Old Cornwall.
