Welcome to the Par Old Cornwall Society webpages. We also have a Facebook page with our latest news and posts. 

All meetings are at the Bishop Gott Memorial Hall, Par Green. Meetings begin at 2.30 pm Refreshments will be served from  2pm, and there is also a raffle.

Subscriptions are £10 for annual membership, and £2 for visitors to attend a meeting.

Par OCS Events Reports

Some photos of the Walking Festival “The History around Par Beach” held on Saturday 27th June in Par and led the committee members of Par OCS. 19 members, friends and visitors joined in as we followed a route along the road, pathways to the beach, covering the history of the Harbour and the present-day projects on the beach. The photos show us leaving the hall, the plaque erected by Par OCS to mark the home of Reuben Chappell, the Pierhead Painter, who lived there between 1904 – 1946. A photo of the stone sculpture which represents the many uses of china clay, marking the beginning of the Clay Trail from the Beach to the Eden Project. The Time and Tide Bell is cast in bronze and rings at high tide in Par Bay. We were fortunate that the tide was low when we visited and so were able to walk out over the wet sand - and actually give the bell a ‘toll!’ On our return to the hall further members were looking through our society ‘scrap books’ and archive photos before we all tucked into a welcome pasty and saffron bun, washed down with copious cups of tea!
