W H Paynter (1901-1976) was one of the most determined collectors of folklore “in the form of oral narratives, customs and folk-magic practices”. The material he gathered was assembled with the intent of publishing a book, but the manuscript was lost after he died.   It surfaced again in 2009, and Jason Semmens presents that manuscript here, with an informative Foreword.
